Having the chance to observe these Belgian draft horses up close was a unique experience for me.
I was able to join the owner in the field with the horses by my side, and I took the opportunity to take some photos. I'm sharing this snapshot with you.

My attention was particularly drawn to the colors and texture of the coat, as well as the mare's double golden-blond mane. Ochre, burnt orange, various earth tones, rust, and grays were essential to my palette.
For the muzzle, I used light French gray, adding shadows and highlights with various gray tones and titanium white.

Using different colors for the double mane comb, such as light and dark ochre, creates depth.
Pale yellow and titanium white add shine and movement to the mane. A smooth transition between these colors can be achieved with a stumper.
The foal, which usually walks alongside the mare, has the same coat texture, although its double mane is darker.
I use the same techniques and color palette to draw the foal.

The foal's coat is also covered with a base of warm earth tones, on which I then draw small strokes in the direction of the hair.
Finally, light and shadow are taken into account.
This pastel drawing, steeped in history, will also receive a matching mat and frame.
