Blog March '26 – Pencil drawing of an Airedale Terrier

As you already know, I draw most dogs in pastel; however, I drew this dog in pencil, which might fit a bit better in a modern interior. I have therefore framed this drawing in a black frame.

The drawing is built up gradually using an HB pencil in combination with a 2B and 4B pencil. After sketching the contours, I first draw with a soft pencil and then build up in different layers. This is done using 2B and 4B pencils in combination with both small and large blending tools.

By rotating the drawing, I can more easily draw the hairs of the fur, which appear as wavy curls here. With this technique, you also notice small details and can better see if all the proportions are correct.

I create depth with a 4B pencil and continue doing this until I am happy with the result. The tongue is drawn with an HB pencil and remains softly colored so that I create more depth in the fur of the head, neck, and throat.

The happy owner came to pick up the drawing in person at

the Sterrebeek Park Festival, which takes place annually in Sterrebeek towards the end of June.

She shared her joy with her followers, and I am happy to share this lovely message with you.
