Blog August '25 - A beautiful snapshot of two donkeys

During July and August, we love to reminisce about wonderful vacation moments.

I was able to capture this beautiful snapshot during a walk.

I'd also like to share my next blog post with you, a pastel drawing made with PanPastel and pastel pencils.

The base of the coats of both donkeys is a combination of PanPastel colors: Payne's Grey, Yellow Ochre, Orange Shade, and Burnt Sienna Shade.

Then I shade small lines in the direction of the hairs with various shades of brown and gray, from dark to light.

For highlighting, I often use Bismuth White from Caran D'ache and White from Faber Castel. The darker areas of the muzzle have both brown and light and dark gray shades.

The 3D effect in the ears is achieved by using Bismuth White for the lighter parts of the auricle. For contrast, I use dark brown and gray tones for the edges and deeper parts of the ear. I lighten the edges of the auricle with various rust and orange shades. For the small downy hairs at the ends of the auricle, I use Titanium White from Pan Pastel and Bismuth White from Carran d’Ache.

Finally, I draw a path with perspective in Pan Pastel.

Bright Yellow Green Shad and Bright Yellow Extra Dark from Pan Pastel serve as the base.

The grass and the darker parts are drawn with various green and earth tones to create more depth.

To finish, the front of the trail is given colours such as light green, soft yellow and orange tones which you can find in the donkeys' fur so that you get an even better perspective of the trail.
