Now that spring is in full bloom with its beautiful blossoms, which decorate the fruit trees, more parties are also announcing themselves, such as baby showers, spring parties, communions and weddings. That is why I am blogging about a pastel portrait drawing of a cute baby face, as a gift for a baby shower.

The baby face gets a nice base of 740.8 Burnt Sienna and 380.8 Red Iron Oxide from Pan Pastel. You create shadows and highlights by using different soft pink, beige and orange shades. All the colours flow nicely into each other by smudging the colours with a smudging tool, just like with the hands where I use the same technique.

After drawing the contours of the hat and pyjamas, I also give a nice first layer of Titanium white from Pan Pastel. The stitching in the pyjamas is obtained by drawing a line of fine hatched lines in bister 788.047 from C’aran D’ache, just like the contours of the press studs. Light beige tones and Titanium white give shadows and highlights.

As a little surprise I write the baby’s name on the pyjamas instead of welcome, which was originally written on the pyjamas. The matching passe-partout is a double passe-partout with a small accent of pink in the hat. This is a beautiful gift for a special occasion.
