This little French Bulldog is very recognizable by his flat muzzle, deep skin folds and hanging cheeks with a slightly sad look. A nice assignment to capture in pastel colors.
Here I work on an A3 format, where the drawing gets about the same size as the actual animal. Starting with the expressive eyes and continuing with the flat face, I work layer upon layer with many colors. By using multiple colors you create more dimension in your drawing.
It is important that you regularly view a drawing from a distance and judge for yourself whether depths and colors are right. Deep grooves are accentuated and feathered. The fur is created by placing fine cross-hatched lines in different shades of gray and brown, which are drawn in the direction of the hairs of the fur.
