Christmas Blog 2023

And so we close our creative year, with this nice drawing of five cheerful children's faces. Drawn with pastel pencils in combination with PanPastel.

Once I have sketched the contours of the faces with an HB pencil, the skin of these faces gets a first layer of Burnt Sienna, mixed with Red Iron Oxide from PanPastel, which I apply with a sponge attached to the matching pallet holder. Highlights and shadows are given attention by coloring on this base with different shades such as light and old pink, orange, terracotta, bister and raw amber. The mouths take on a warm red tint, on which light pink vertical lines are drawn.

As you may have noticed, I work from the center outwards, which is much more practical.

When drawing the hair, it sometimes happens that I place my drawing pad upside down.

The sweaters of the three boys are taking shape, the middle sweater is drawn with different colors of rust and ocher. I finish by drawing S-shaped movements in Titanium white, to create the effect of a cable sweater.

For the girls' faces I use the same technique as for the boys.

The sweaters also have a base layer of PanPastel, where shadows and highlights are drawn and colored with different ocher and rust shades.

The icing sugar on the strawberry cake is Titanium white from PanPastel.

And so it remains for me to wish you a Merry Christmas and a joyful, creative, happy and healthy 2024.
